Don’t you just love this time of the year?

Kids bundling up to play in the snow, then racing inside with rosy cheeks, flushed with excitement. Christmas music playing softly on the radio. Pumpkin pies baking in the oven, the scents of ginger and cinnamon drifting through the house. Whispers and giggles as children point out colorfully wrapped presents under a gigantic pine tree loaded with pinecones and sentimental ornaments. Snuggling in front of the fireplace with hubby while you cheer for football teams or watch your favorite movie. Loading up the car for road trips to visit family members you haven’t seen in awhile. Squirting whipped cream on a tall mug of hot chocolate for a late afternoon yummy. Watching the glow of a thousand candles light up a sanctuary, and songs of praise reaching toward heaven.

Christmas is a highlight of my year. Sure, it’s crazy busy with buying and wrapping gifts, attending school and church programs, making the rounds at holiday parties, school exams, visiting relatives. But, during this hectic season, I make a conscious effort to slow down, to thank God for the “ultimate” gift given to me.

What’s the ultimate gift? A chance for a fresh start. A giant eraser to wipe away the grunge. Paint bright enough to cover black walls. Spring-cleaning from the ceiling to the floor and all those dusty blinds in between.

It’s a gift given to you by a loving Father. No strings attached. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Eph 2:8-9, NIV)

Wow! Merry Christmas!

What about you? What’s your favorite time of the year and why?

I love Christmas but managed somehow to marry Mr. Bah Humbug himself. But I love him to bits anyway. We don't get snow til January, if we get any at all. I love the carols, the candles, watching everyone open what I've bought them. But most of all love the reason for the season.
Without Christ there is no Christmas.

When I was a kid, it was Christmas, of course. Riding around to see the decorations and lights, the carols...sometimes the snow!

Now that I'm more cold-natured...it's spring--late April and early May. I love the color, brightness and smells.

Merry Christmas, Dora!

Amen, Clare! A case of opposites attract? Do you light candles on your tree? My fire chief hubby visited Austria over Christmas, years before we met. He didn't sleep a wink on Christmas Eve because of the lit candles. He has a tough time during candlelight services, too. lol

Hey Sandy. You don't enjoy riding around to see the decorations and lights anymore now that you're grown up? lol. Since moving to NC, I adore all the seasons. Spring bursting with newness. The shortness of summer (ha!). Leaves bursting with color in the fall. LOVE it!!

I hope you both enjoy a joyous, Son-filled Christmas season!

No i don't have real candles on the tree. I won't even go out and leave the tree lights on. And candles get blown out when I leave the room too.

The hero in my new WIP is a firefighter.

One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season is to tell little children, "On Jesus' birthday, EVERYBODY gets a present!" and watch their faces light up. Very fun. Never fails to warm my heart. Children are such presents, themselves, aren't they?

Dora, whenever I come here, I can't resist browsing through past posts... so many delights, here. Especially enjoying the Christmas cheer, too!

Clare, I'll definitely be looking for that one! Congrats on the release date for AFTER THE FIRE!

Hey Lilly! You should see my 17-mo-old grandson when he touches our tree. His eyes get all wide and his lips make an "oh." It's so precious to watch. Lilly, it's always a pleasure visiting with you. Thanks so much for your kind words.
